  • Westbourne Netball Tournaments

    Thu 21 Apr 2016

It has been a busy week for Westbourne’s netballers as they took part in two netball tournaments. On Saturday they headed to Overton Grange High School to play five games. In their group matches the girls began strongly, confidently beating Abbey 5-0. In their second game they faced Hackbridge and their hard work was awarded with a 1-0 victory. Then they took on St Elphege’s and after a slow start, eventually recorded a 3-0 win. Their final group game was against Avenue and the team was superb, winning 4-0. It was then time for the semi-final where we faced Cheam Park Farm. In the best game of the tournament so far, the girls unfortunately lost 4-1. However the whole team could be extremely proud of their efforts across the morning.

On Tuesday Westbourne hosted seven other teams in the league finals. On a much sunnier afternoon Westbourne took on St Elphege’s in their semi-final game. At half time Westbourne were leading 1-0 and were playing brilliantly. Luckily in the second half the shooters found their range and the girls grew in confidence, recording a convincing 4-1 win. It was then time for the grand finale against Amy Johnson.  In an extremely close encounter Westbourne took the lead to make it 1-0 at half time. We scored again just after half time to make it 2-0 but Amy Johnson fought back to 2-1 and then crucially 2-2 with 20 seconds left on the clock. It then came to extra time with Amy Johnson unfortunately scoring to secure the trophy. Westbourne netballers were magnanimous in defeat and the whole team fought brilliantly to the end. It has been a long and extremely successful netball season and thanks must go to the dedicated band of supporters who have cheered on the team at every opportunity!

  • Sports Relief Fundraising

    Mon 07 Mar 2016

The School Council and The Sports Council would like to invite everybody to help raise money for Sports Relief. As we know these charities work very hard to help children who are less fortunate than ourselves.

So on Friday 18th March we would like everyone at Westbourne to dress up like a Sports Star!

For this day Football kits will be allowed!

We look forward to seeing a variety of Sporting Legends roaming the corridors of Westbourne! Will we know who you are? We will be running a mile on the day... so trainers are essential!

We recommend that each child gives a £1 donation towards this worthwhile cause.

As always, thank you for your support,

The School Council and The Sports Council
