Personal Development

As well as our exciting curriculum, we provide many other opportunities at Westbourne! Here is what we have organised so far this year:

Autumn Term 2022

 

  • School Council - fundraising for the year ahead
  • Philosophy - Year 5
  • Forest School - Year 2
  • English - Summer Reading Challenge (Sutton Library Service) – winners for greatest percentage of pupils taking part. Author visit (Alom Shaha)
  • Science/PSHCE - Awarded ‘Healthy Schools London’ Award
  • Clubs - all at no cost to parents/carers (see timetables)
  • History– Black History Month linked to HPL
  • Year 6 sleepover at school
  • Year 5 trip to Thames Young Mariner
  • Science – STEM liquid nitrogen show
  • PE – borough cross country (2 children are borough champions, 9 children inside top 10, 4 children to represent Sutton and London Youth Games
  • PE- boys and girls football matches
  • Music – Sutton School Music Education Plan  awarded for excellent music provision
  • PE – Olympian/Paralympian visit for assembly
  • Science - £1000 grant from ‘Glass Sellers of London Charity Fund’ for magnifying glasses and microscopes (assembly)
  • PSHCE – Harvest collection for Sutton Night Watch
  • PSHCE – Anti-bullying week and Odd Socks Day
  • Weekly class assemblies to parents
  • Christmas concerts (Nursery, Reception, KS1 performance, Y3/4 concert, Y/6 concert, Y5/6 Drama and dance production)
  • Visit from 5 student teachers from Netherlands
  • Outdoor learning: Developed growing area:  Tulip bulbs planted ready for Spring Term
  • Fundraising - Poppy appeal
  • PE – October mini marathon (every child in the school ran 2.6 miles)
  • RE – Y5 RE Days from Sutton Schools Work
  • PE – Y4 and Y6 cross country girls borough champions
  • Christmas Cracker Smile – children taking donated gifts to elderly residents in the borough

 

Spring Term 2023

  • School Council Meetings
    • Safeguarding - what makes children feel safe in school?
    • Red Nose Day – Fundraising and joke assembly
  • Maths – Primary Maths Challenge – Round 2!
  • Outdoor learning: Developed growing area: Infant children planted onions and carrot seeds at lunchtime and will watch them grow ready for harvest in the Summer Term
  • Fundraising: Children’s Trust Assembly following fundraiser (£517)
  • Forest School Year 1
  • RE – Year 1 visit to Trinity Church
  • Music: Young Voices choir at the O2
  • Speaking at HPL conference about Westbourne’s success with implementing HPL since Nov 2020
  • Computing: Safer Internet Day
  • PSHCE: Children’s Mental Health Week
  • PE: Sporting fixtures against other schools
  • Class Assemblies
  • Full programme of after school clubs, all free of charge
  • Trips: Year 2 trip to St Paul’s Cathedral;  Year 4 to Sutton Baptist Church
  • PE: Surrey Cricket Coach/Chance to Shine charity provide coaching to each class for 4 weeks
  • RE: Hindu workshop for Year 1 and 4
