On Tuesday 23rd May, Westbourne travelled to Stanley Park High School to take part in an athletics competition. The children were absolutely brilliant: they ran, threw and jumped with real determination. Well done to you all for winning the competition! As a result, the children will now represent Sutton in the London Youth Games - a fantastic achievement.
On Wednesday 24th May, Westbourne welcomed an LTA (Lawn Tennis Association) coach. Throughout the day, Phil coached every child from Nursery to Year 2; he was very impressed with the children's behaviour and listening skills and all the children had a fantastic time learning tennis skills. Every child has now been given an invitation for another FREE session this coming weekend. A great experience and day had by all! Thank you.
On Wednesday 24th May, 17 teams met for the annual Dodgeball competition at Cheam Park Farm. All three Westbourne teams played extremely well. A special mention to one of our teams that reached the final but unfortunately narrowly lost by one player. Well played all, great Dodgeball!
We had an exciting start to last week as the children prepared their scrumptious baked goods to sell. It was great to see our hall packed with eager customers! The children put a lot of effort into the sale and really enjoyed the experience. They raised around £400 – a brilliant total! This money will be donated to ‘Street Child United’ to aid the charity in continuing to make a difference by helping those less fortunate. A huge well done to the children and their parents for their brilliant effort, and thank you to everyone who came along.
Westbourne travelled to the Sutton Sports Village for a local tennis competition. The children played extremely well, winning 8 matches and securing their place into the London Youth Games. Well done children - superb performances out on the courts today!
'People, adults, children and dogs of the world...'
The Y5/6 children will be hosting a charity cake sale on Monday 15th May at 3:15-4pm. We are raising money for a charity called 'Street Child United' - every penny will go towards finding a home for street children! If you come, you will be treated to a delicious variety of cakes, cupcakes and doughnuts... so, come and raise money the tasty way!
Westbourne crowned Borough Cup Champions!
Westbourne 3-2 Cheam Common
Westbourne travelled to local football club Sutton United for the Borough Cup Final. The game was set to be a classic after previous encounters. That it certainly was - two fantastic footballing teams playing for the final time this season. The game ebbed and flowed wonderfully with a vast amount of talent on show. Westbourne took a 3-0 lead into the final 8 minutes, one hand on the trophy perhaps? Cheam Common certainly didn't roll over and scored two quick-fire goals to set up an edgy finish to the game. Thankfully, Westbourne held out and were crowned Borough champions for 2016/17. An outstanding performance and a brilliant result, boys - very well done!
Westbourne end the season on a high!
Westbourne 4-0 Avenue
After the recent Borough cup success, the team took to the pitch for the very last time this season. A different type of opposition to the free-flowing footballers of Cheam Common, as this Avenue side was much more direct and athletic. The tactics slightly altered to play Amaran in behind the opponents defence and boy did it work! Amaran managed to bag all four goals in a tremendous individual and team performance. Westbourne won the Sutton and Cheam Cup and ended the season as double cup winners.
Over the course of the season the team has also finished 3rd overall in Surrey and 2nd in the London Youth Games. All of the boys have been simply brilliant; the improvements, the dedication and desire to play in so many competitions and do so well are commendable; they are a real credit to themselves and the school. Well done again boys and thank you for such a memorable season!
