Westbourne crowned Borough Cup Champions!
Westbourne 3-2 Cheam Common
Westbourne travelled to local football club Sutton United for the Borough Cup Final. The game was set to be a classic after previous encounters. That it certainly was - two fantastic footballing teams playing for the final time this season. The game ebbed and flowed wonderfully with a vast amount of talent on show. Westbourne took a 3-0 lead into the final 8 minutes, one hand on the trophy perhaps? Cheam Common certainly didn't roll over and scored two quick-fire goals to set up an edgy finish to the game. Thankfully, Westbourne held out and were crowned Borough champions for 2016/17. An outstanding performance and a brilliant result, boys - very well done!
Westbourne end the season on a high!
Westbourne 4-0 Avenue
After the recent Borough cup success, the team took to the pitch for the very last time this season. A different type of opposition to the free-flowing footballers of Cheam Common, as this Avenue side was much more direct and athletic. The tactics slightly altered to play Amaran in behind the opponents defence and boy did it work! Amaran managed to bag all four goals in a tremendous individual and team performance. Westbourne won the Sutton and Cheam Cup and ended the season as double cup winners.
Over the course of the season the team has also finished 3rd overall in Surrey and 2nd in the London Youth Games. All of the boys have been simply brilliant; the improvements, the dedication and desire to play in so many competitions and do so well are commendable; they are a real credit to themselves and the school. Well done again boys and thank you for such a memorable season!
The Year 5 children have worked really hard on their project to raise money for the charity ‘Jump Start’ by organising mini-fairs. The results are in and we are delighted to announce that they won three of the final awards! Sixteen Year 5 children presented their project to the ‘Superdragons’ a couple of weeks ago and won the best presentation! The children also won the most amount of money raised and the best relationship with their charity. Brilliant results – well done Year 5!
Last week Westbourne’s ‘High 5’ netball team headed to Crystal Palace to take part in the ‘London Youth Games’. In their first group matches they took on the boroughs of Ealing, Islington and Enfield, recording a draw and two victories. This meant that they qualified for the more challenging half of the draw. After lunch, they took on the boroughs of Kingston, Lewisham and Bromley. In the best match of the tournament so far, they recorded a 3-3 draw with Kingston, a particularly impressive score in a 6-minute match! They also drew with Lewisham and finally lost to Bromley.
Throughout the day, the children represented Westbourne and the borough of Sutton brilliantly and their netball skills improved with every match! Have a look at this photo of the children with Lutalo Muhammad, who won a silver medal in the Rio Olympics and bronze at London 2012.
