PSHCE (Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship Education) AT WESTBOURNE

Here at Westbourne Primary, we aim to promote healthy, independent and responsible members of society. We help to encourage all of our pupils to play a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community through integrated lessons, trips and class (as well as whole-school) activities. In addition, our pupils are given opportunities in specific PSHCE lessons, circle times and assemblies to develop their confidence, self-motivation and an understanding of their rights and responsibilities within our diverse world – underpinned by British Values. To achieve this, we use the 'Jigsaw' curriculum. Our School Council members also lead by example and help others to develop these skills.

During Key Stages 1 and 2, the children gradually build on the skills, attitudes, values, knowledge and understanding that they have started to acquire and develop during the Early Years/Foundation Stage. We offer rich learning opportunities and experiences which reflect the increasing independence along with the physical and social awareness of learners as they move through the school. They learn skills to develop effective relationships, assume greater personal responsibility and keep themselves safe. This in turn introduces them to a wider world and enables them to make an active contribution to their communities.
