Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Dear Parents,
Please find a message from the Council regarding the traffic management works:
'I wanted to inform you that the direction of the 1-way on Anton Crescent is scheduled to be reversed next week on 23rd Oct around mid-day. We have planned this change during the school half term week to avoid undue disruption.
Necessary signage and road markings will be put in place from next Monday onwards.'
Fundraising news!
£2412.79
October has only just started, but we have already got the year’s fundraising off to a wonderful start with £2412.79 raised so far thanks to everyone’s support!
Firstly, our MacMillan Cancer Support coffee ☕ morning raised an amazing £154,63 for a fantastic cause that affects so many families. Thank you to all who contributed cakes, donated money and came along to say hello. Well done to Louise & Dean Couldridge for organising the sale.
Secondly, Westbourne’s very first ❤Preloved❤ nearly new sale raised £400, which is a fantastic amount for a first-time event and provided a great opportunity to recycle rather than throw away those items we no longer need, as well as having a lot of fun. Money was also raised for Local Families with Bleeding Disorders and leftover clothing given to the Sutton Lighthouse charity, who thank Westbourne for their kind gift. Thank you to Emily Rees for running the Westbourne table and sorting through the donations.
Finally, thank you to everyone for making the 📙 Pop-up Book store 📘 such an enjoyable and successful event. We raised a total of £1458.16 though the sale of new books, giving us £814.90 to spend on brand new literacy material for school. A further £400 was raised by the ‘Great Westbourne Book Exchange’ mufti day and the children certainly had fun passing on their favourite books to friends and finding new stories to take home.
👏 Could we thank Mr Bovington very much for going above and beyond his regular duties in helping us run our events. We would also like to thank Jo Yuille for storing and coming along to sell second-hand uniform, which we know many parents appreciate very much. Also, many thanks to Mr Miracapillo and the amazing Westbourne staff for giving up free time and helping wherever they could. Thank you too to all the parents who pitched in to help run stalls, set out the halls and clear away after. We really couldn't do it without you!
🎅DON’T FORGET! Saturday November 30th, Westbourne pupils will be really looking forward to the Christmas Fair! If you are able to help in any way, please get in touch via Classlist/Facebook and at wfa.sutton@gmail.com
Sutton is bidding to be the London Borough of Culture in 2023 and they’re calling on the people of Sutton to help make this happen. They are asking residents, businesses and community groups to back our bid and help to shape Sutton’s culture. Winning this would mean £1.35m worth of funding to devote to Sutton's culture, for 2023 and beyond.
This investment would allow Sutton to improve our cultural offer for schools, with activities such as funded author visits, live theatre and activities to help children develop a love of science and reading.
The vision is to bring culture to the heart of the borough and make culture matter for everyone, of all ages and from all backgrounds.
Please support Sutton by signing their online page:

Simply the best!
Westbourne have been awarded the Platinum Award for the delivery of school sport and competition. This is the highest Mark that is awarded; we are all extremely proud of this achievement. We are also the very first school (Primary and Secondary) in Sutton to be awarded this Mark. Well done all!
Thank you! Westbourne Summer Fair has raised £2,395 for our school!
After many weeks concerned about a potential wash-out, the annual Westbourne Summer Fair last Saturday turned out to be the hottest day of the year! Despite the heat, children and families still enjoyed the many games, stalls, dance and choir performances, the brilliant Surrey Jive dancers and delicious BBQ, food and treats on offer. In all, a great way to spend the afternoon together as a school community and raise funds at the same time.
Well done indeed to this year’s organising team, led by Sagar Vadher, with great support from Justen Bailey, Dean & Louise Couldridge, Kelly Groom, Mehnaz Khan, Virginia Kennedy and Phil Stephenson.
Thank you also to the many people who volunteered to run stalls, set-up and clear-away after the event: Eman Ali, Lacey Allan & Logan, Rachel Ayton, Fred Bastello & Mariel, Nadia Bushra, Lyn Celebi, Tracey Chapman, Lauren Cleere, Gemma, Neil & Daisy Dickson, Laura & Gareth Dyer, Anita Eedpuganti, Olga Filippova, Priya Gautham, Neelima Gera & family, Michele Hadjilah, Amy Hearn & Paul Ferman, Wanda Henderson, Aneta Jenkins, Bea Jennings, Tooba Khan, Danielle & Richard Minto, Evelyn Navaratnam, Beverley Phillips, Thriveni Potti, Remah Rajiah, Maricel Ringor & Javier Lopez, Emma Rodber, Adrienne Rogers & Y6 stall helpers, Debbie Rose, Hilary Sang, Cassandra Seeger-Oulton, Drew & Julia Seville, Naila Shah, Rajyashree Sharma, Chris Shaw, Francesca Shears, Lewis Stephenson & Charlotte Groves, Kate Thomas, Sine Trujillo, Saritha Vijaiganesh, Karen Vince, Yuli Wang, Rob & Jo Yuille, Jessica Xiahua, Quianyue Zeng. A special thanks to Justine Laugee & Alex who not only helped us clear up, but also kindly drove our excess bins to the refuse centre!
Also, thank you to Karen Burrows, Laura Daley and Cassandra Seeger-Oulton for their generous raffle donations, Ghousia Nadeem for her delicious samosas and Naila Shah for arranging the pizzas.
Thank you to the Westbourne staff who helped organise the day and run activities: Mrs Bolton, Mr Jiggins, Miss Aves, Mrs Rondeau, Mr Miracapillo and Mrs Fulton, Mrs Pope’s expertise on the bouncy castles, Mr Prothero and Mrs Clark.
Thanks very much indeed to our Year 6 runners, the younger pupils, siblings and other grown-ups not mentioned by name who were on hand to carry chairs and tables, set up gazebos, clean away and generally made themselves very useful on the day. We couldn’t do it without you!
Michelle Bibby would also like to thank everyone who came to her excellent stall in aid of the support group Local Families with Bleeding Disorders, who do great work helping patients living with inherited blood disorders and their families. She raised £323.80, which an amazing total for a great cause. Well done Michelle!
Celebration of Learning Afternoon
Dear Parents,
In response to parental feedback in last year’s questionnaires, and as a result of the school’s self-evaluation, we will be organising two Celebration of Learning afternoons (Infants and Juniors) in July. This is a great opportunity for children to showcase their learning and discuss with you their progress throughout the year. The children will lead the celebration of learning, presenting their work in books and discussing their achievements.
The logistics of the afternoon are as follows:
Infants on Tuesday 9th July between 1:30 – 3:00pm (Reception/Y1 in the Main Hall, Y2 in the Sports Hall);
Juniors on Wednesday 10th July between 1:30 – 3:00pm (Y3/4 in the Main Hall, Y5/6 in the Sports Hall).
The parents are invited to come into school (via the Main Entrance) and will be directed to the appropriate Hall. Children will be called once their parents have arrived, and will carry their books ready to show the parents in the Hall (not in their classroom). There will also be a parental voice form for you to comment on your child’s achievement and progress.
Once finished, the books and the parental voice form will be left on the class table provided, and the parents are responsible to take the children home directly from the Hall (the children will have their lunchbox, book bag, etc. with them). Should you have a sibling in the other Phase, the children can go and collect them ready to be taken home earlier.
Lastly, on each class’s table there will be a sheet to book an optional 5-minute slot with the class teacher on Tuesday 16/7 between 3:30-5:30pm, should you have any specific questions you may wish to discuss with the teacher.
I hope this will be a fantastic opportunity for children to be proud of their learning, as well as a chance for parents to review their children’s progress with them.
Thank you.
Mr Miracapillo

On a beautiful, bright, cool morning young RWM superstar Alex travelled to Parliament Hill, Hampstead Heath to represent us, Westbourne and the London Borough of Sutton at the London Youth Games in the Cross Country event. Over the last few weeks, Alex has trained immensely hard, giving up playing with his friends at lunchtimes in order to train, fully dedicating himself to a sport he loves so much.
Alex finished 3rd overall and was awarded the bronze medal, officially the 3rd fastest boy in London, wow! A simply outstanding performance from Alex, I know your parents, our club, Westbourne, absolutely everybody is extremely proud of you. A HUGE well done to you young man, you are an inspiration to so many people including me, keep enjoying your sport and doing what you’re doing!
Watch this space and remember the name, this superstar is going places!
