Westbourne Primary School

Nursery

Welcome to our Nursery

‘This is where the journey begins…

This is where the magic starts’

(Elizaveta, Y3)

In the Nursery, we aim to lay the foundation for the children’s learning by providing a safe, secure and stimulating environment in which children are inspired to explore the world around them.  Our aim is to support each child’s individual development through play-based learning, encouraging independence, creativity, and a love of learning from the very start.

Working in close partnership with parents, we strive to build strong foundations that help every child grow socially, emotionally, and academically, ensuring they are happy, confident, and ready for the next stage of their education.

The Nursery is an integral part of Westbourne Primary School and shares a philosophy of active involvement in the school.  The Nursery building forms part of the main school and therefore is not regarded as a separate unit.  Contact with other pupils and staff throughout the school is encouraged, as is the use of all school facilities including the hall, field and Forest School.

The Nursery Curriculum

We believe that learning should be fun and engaging. Activities in the Nursery are play-based and carefully planned and organised in order to provide a range of learning experiences, encouraging children to explore, discover and develop new skills at their own pace.

As well as a large indoor learning environment, our Nursery benefits from a spacious outdoor area, providing children with plenty of opportunities to explore, play, and learn in a natural, stimulating environment.

Planning for each term is carried out using a topic-based approach, following the children’s needs and interests and responding to specific events.

School Tours

We warmly welcome parents to visit our Nursery and school, where you can take a guided tour led by members of the Senior Leadership Team, meet our dedicated staff, and see the school in action.

Fees, Funding and Sessions

Choosing the right childcare is an important decision, and we are committed to making it as easy as possible for you to access high-quality early years education for your child.

Westbourne Primary accepts government funded hours. This means you can use your eligible funding to cover sessions. For 30-hour places, you will be required to provide your eligibility code ahead of your start date, and as required through the year.

We also offer the option of chargeable hours to extend the Nursery day to 3:30pm if required.

To find out what you may be entitled to, we encourage you to use the gov.uk childcare calculator to explore your potential free childcare and education hours. For more details, please visit the ‘Best Start in Life’ website: https://beststartinlife.gov.uk/

Nursery hours from September 2026

Our standard Nursery hours are aligned with the school day, term time only, which makes drop-off and pick-up easier for parents who have siblings in both Nursery and the main school.

The morning Nursery session is from 8.30am-11.30am

The afternoon Nursery session is from 12.30pm-3.30pm

If eligible for 30 hours provision, children can attend from 8.30am-2.30pm or parents can pay a small fee to extend their child’s provision until 3.30pm.

Children who attend all day will be required to bring a packed lunch to Nursery.
