Derwent Class Year 5

Welcome to Derwent Class!

We hope you are looking forward to an exciting year ahead. Our team consists of: Mr Regan, Mrs Schofield and Mrs Keens.

Our topic this term is ‘Turning Points in British History’, and the majority of the topic will revolve around World War II. We have an exciting trip coming up very shortly where we will be visiting the Imperial War Museum!

We will continue to work hard on developing the children’s Literacy and Numeracy skills. Please try to make sure your child reads on a regular basis at home, sharing the experience whenever you can. ‘Reading Records’ will be sent home for you to make three comments about their reading at home. We also expect your child to make three comments of their own and the books will be collected in every Monday. Please ensure that their Reading Record is in school every day.

It is also of great importance that the children learn their weekly spellings and times tables at home too. These will be handed out on a Wednesday and tested during the following week.

Further information regarding the Year 5 Curriculum can be found at the bottom of their class page on the school website.

Below are some important points to ensure a happy and productive first term:

  • Always be smart and punctual
  • Label your PE kit and school uniform
  • Bring your ‘Reading Record’ to school every day
  • Listen carefully and be kind to others
  • Learn your spellings and be able to apply them
  • Always try your best
  • Enjoy your learning journey
  • Indoor plimsolls
  • Headphones for interactive learning

Your child will need a named PE kit (white t-shirt and blue shorts) every Tuesday and Friday. They will also need trainers and suitable clothing for outdoor games on a Tuesday.

A club timetable and an accompanying letter will be sent home shortly. If your child is going to attend a club, then please remember to complete the paperwork online. Hopefully your child will be able to take part in some of the extra-curricular activities that are available to them.
