Waveney Class Year 1

Welcome to Waveney Class!

Happy New Year!

Welcome back! We hope you had a lovely Christmas and we would like to say a huge thank you for the wonderful presents and cards we received at the end of last term. It was very generous and they are all very much appreciated.

This term we have two exciting topics to cover. For the first half of term we will be learning about Dinosaurs! We will be writing instructions for how to trap a dinosaur! We will also be reading the Julia Donaldson story ‘Tyrannosaurus Drip’ as part of our fiction work. In Numeracy for this half of term we will be learning how to use and compare numbers to 50, as well as solving addition and subtraction problems.

After half term we will be learning about Fairy Tales! This is a great opportunity to read plenty of different fairy tales with your children at home, looking at what similar features there are between them. In Numeracy we will be continuing to focus on counting, reading and writing numbers confidently to 100 as well as on addition and subtraction.

Reading books and word lists will be changed on a Monday and sent home on Tuesday. Please read with your child and write a short comment 6 times a week in their reading record. As before, these comments can be about their school books or books from home. Please continue to practise all of the sounds in the back of their reading records to reinforce these.

Please make sure that your child ‘s clothing is named, including PE kit and plimsoles.

End of the Day

If you need to discuss anything with teachers at the school day, please wait until all children have been collected by their parents.
