April 2017

Welcome back to the final term in Year 5!

We hope that you had a great Easter break and enjoyed the lovely glimpses of sunshine that we had! Also, the generous Easter Eggs that were delicious (it’s lucky that we have stairs so that we can work off the calories!) We would like to thank you for your fantastic support so far this year. We are looking forward to our last successful and productive term in Year 5!

This term our topic will be ‘Ancient Greece’ and the children are already very excited to learn all about it! It will include locating the era on a timeline, comparisons between then and now, learning about their Gods, the Olympic Games and of course, writing their own myth! We will also be learning about the legacy of Ancient Greece, making temples and creating Greek pots.

In Science, we will be learning about forces and their effects. We will also be extending the children’s knowledge of plant and animal habitats.

Our drumming lessons will continue with Inspire Works. This term we will learn how to play Samba instruments! We will be holding our final drumming concert towards the end of term.

Below is a quick reminder about the important points to remember to ensure a final happy and productive final term in Year 5!

Happy New Year - Welcome Back!

We hope that you had a lovely Christmas and thank you for the lovely Christmas cards and presents!

We will continue to work hard on developing Literacy and Maths skills. Please try to make sure your child reads on a regular basis at home, sharing the experience if you can. ‘Reading Record’ books will be sent home weekly for you to make three comments about their reading at home. We also expect the children to make three comments of their own every week and the books will be collected in every Friday. Please ensure that their reading record is in school every day. It is also of great importance that the children practice their weekly spellings and times tables at home too. These will also be tested on a Friday. Education City activities will be given for the children to complete in accordance with our weekly topics.

Our topic this term is:

Mapping out!

Please ensure that all uniform is named and that children have indoor plimsolls to change into during the school day. Please ensure that your child has suitable clothing (including trainers) as we will sometimes have our PE sessions outside. Jogging bottoms may also be required.

We would like to remind the children that jewellery (other than stud earrings) and nail varnish are not permitted in school.
