Welcome Back to Ribble Class!

Miss Skipp and Mrs Porkolab

We hope you have had a lovely Easter break filled with chocolate eggs! Over the year so far the children have grown so much and come so far. This term we are going to have great fun with our new topic, Pirates and Ocean adventures!

As part of our topic we will be looking at the life of pirates, focusing on famous pirates such as Blackbeard and Anne Bonny, learning about the seven continents and different pirate adventures. We will also be looking at holidays around the world and learning about different travel destinations. We will also be comparing British seaside holidays from the Victorian period with seaside holidays today. As well as Ocean Adventures the children will also be exploring under the sea! In Art we will be creating starfish pictures and clay models.

In Literacy the children will continue to work on sounding out sentences independently in their work. They will be writing stories and poems about Pirates and the seaside and they will even make their own holiday brochures about different holiday destinations.

In Numeracy the children are deepening their understanding of place value and number through different play-based and formal activities. They will also be exploring measurements, money and time.

Homework

Reading books and word lists will be changed on a Monday and sent home every evening each week. Please read with your child and write a short comment 6 times a week in their reading record. As before, these comments can be about their school books or books from home. Please continue to practise all of the sounds in the back of their reading records to reinforce these.

Spellings will be changed on a Friday and sent home in your child’s green spelling book. This book can be kept at home and returned on the following Friday. We will have a spelling test on Friday to see how your child is getting on.

Education City will commence this term and will focus on Phonics and Maths tasks. Your child has their own username and password which has been sent home in a letter but please let us know if you need another copy. Every Friday we will add a piece of homework that your child can complete using their log in details. If your child does not have access to a computer please speak to your child’s class teacher.

Additional phonics tasks may be sent home for some children in year one.

End of the Day

If you need to discuss anything with teachers at the end of the school day, please wait until all children have been collected by their parents.

Secondly, a kind reminder that pick up is at 3.10pm. Please be there promptly to collect your child.
