Nursery AM Class

April 2017

Welcome back, we hope you have enjoyed your Easter break. The children have enjoyed telling us about their holiday adventures.

This term we will be focusing on growing. We have already enjoyed planting bean plants and we will begin creating a nature area in the garden classroom. We will learn about mini beasts and their habitats and watch as caterpillars turn into butterflies later this term.

We will begin to visit the reception classrooms in preparation for the children’s transition to school.

January 2017

Happy New Year! The children have settled back into nursery and have already been busy with lots of exciting learning.

It has been exciting watching the building work happening and the children have had fun discussing what might happen next.  We have taken photos and will be making a class book about the new build.

This term we have been learning about the author Julia Donaldson, we have read Stickman and The Gruffalo and the children have drawn their own family trees and painted their own Gruffalo characters.

We have enjoyed being authors for the day and writing our own stories.

What have we been learning?

We have been looking at different celebrations and festivals. We will continue with the topic of celebrations’ in the run up to Christmas

The children have enjoyed lots of Halloween activities. We counted spider’s webs and made silly soup.

This week we have been learning about the Hindu festival of light, Diwali. The children have acted out the story of Rama and Sita and used puppets to tell their own versions of the story. We have made Diva lamps to celebrate light.

Next week, we will be thinking about remembrance and celebrating friendships. The children will create a recipe for friendship and make friendship bracelets for their special friends.

Phonics

We have begun learning the Jolly phonics sounds and the children have enjoyed sound hunts and learning the songs.

Next week we will be learning the ‘t’ sound.  Please encourage your child to point out objects beginning with ‘t’ eg. teddy, toy, ten, tiger.

Maths

We have been taking part in lots of number activities this week and helping the children to recognize the numerals 0-5.

Next week we will begin counting objects and recording our findings using our fingers.
