Picture 1

April 2017

We hope you all had a great break and the Easter bunny didn’t provide you with too many sweet treats. Look after those teeth now!

Our topic this term is ‘Rampaging Romans’ in which we will be learning about their impact on Britain and evidence of their settlement across the country.  As part of this topic, the children will learn about Roman Numerals, Shakespeare’s ‘Julius Caesar’ and life in the Roman Army as well as much, much more!  To bring the topic to life we will be hosting a ‘Roman Day’ later on in the term…get those toga sheets ready!!

Homework- Spellings, Tables and Reading

Reading will continue as per last term, with 6 reads per week (3 with an adult, 3 from you). Remember that you will now be expected to answer the reading question that you write in your diary in detail. I am looking forward to you really showing me you have a good understanding of what you are reading.

Spellings are an important part of your learning. Please ensure you spend time learning these and complete the new Spelling Journal. Spellings will be handed out on a Friday and tested the following Friday. The test will involve using these words in a sentence; we will dictate several sentences that include these spellings.

Please can you also learn the Spell Its (table B) which can be found at the bottom of this web page. We will be testing you on these shortly, so get learning.

I would still like you to continue to familiarise yourself with your Learn Its. Remember I want you to know and be brilliant at all the times tables and their division facts by the end of this term

Thank you for all the lovely Christmas presents and cards – you have spoilt us!

This term’s topic is ‘RAGING RIVERS!’  in which we will be learning about rivers in the United Kingdom and other major rivers throughout the world.  We will learn key geographical vocabulary and processes, as well as human uses of rivers over time.

Sayers Croft

We are looking forward to our visit to Sayers Croft in the first week back after the Easter holiday. This will take place from Wednesday  19th April to Friday 21st April. Later in the term we will notify your parents about a meeting.  This will give you the information you need about your first residential school trip – very exciting!

Homework- Spellings, Tables and Reading

Reading will continue as per last term, with 6 reads per week (3 with an adult, 3 from you). Your comments are becoming really good,  much more detailed and you are beginning to justify your opinion regarding the text you have read. Keep it up!

There will also be an optional piece of weekly homework which you can access online.  This is based on Education City activities and you can be given login details. Just ask!

Spellings are an important part of your learning. Please ensure you spend time learning these and practice writing these in sentences. Spellings will continue to be handed out on a Friday and tested the following Friday. The test will involve using these words in a sentence; we will dictate several sentences that include these spellings.

The Learn Its (mostly 42 addition questions) scores have been brilliant during the Autumn term, so keep pushing yourself to be the ‘Be The Best You can Be.’

September 2016

Welcome to Medway Class!

We welcome your child to Medway Class,

I hope you had an enjoyable summer and your child has been excited about starting Year 4. We have so much to look forward to!

This term our topic is 'Extreme Explorers’! We will be looking at different well known explorers and the journeys they embarked upon.

In Literacy we will be focusing specifically on settings and recounts. We will be reading and discussing the novel, ‘The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe’ by C.S.Lewis. You may have read some of his books already, if not, check them out!

We will begin with the 4 operations and place in Numeracy and particularly how these work in relation to one another. Also, we will be continuing our weekly Big Maths tests and Learn Its (times tables test), so keep learning those times tables as this year you will have 42 questions to answer in 60 seconds!

In Science we will be thinking about Living things and their habitats and there are plenty of other things we will be learning about: Judaism, animal names in French, gymnastics, tag rugby... we could be here all day!

Make sure your child brings in their PE kit on a Wednesday and Thursday and remember a pair of indoor shoes. Plimsolls must be worn at all times around the school (just so we don’t ruin the carpets).

In Year 4, 6 comments are required in your child’s  Reading Records each week. Three of these reading comments are to be written by an adult and three by a child. Please ensure their Reading Record is brought into school on a daily basis.

Homework on Education City will be set each Friday. This will involve an English and Mathematical activity.

Spellings will be handed out on a Friday. These will be tested the following Friday.

Please ensure your child brings in a set of headphones for IT lessons each week and they can leave these at school.

Events happening this term can be found on the newsletter.

If you have any questions, then please do not hesitate to ask.

Thanks very much for your support!

Mr Booth
