Welcome to Derwent! We hope you are looking forward to an exciting year ahead.
Our topic this term is, ‘Turning Points in British History’ and the majority of the topic will revolve around World War II.
We will continue to work hard on developing their Literacy and Numeracy skills. Please try to make sure your child reads on a regular basis at home, sharing the experience whenever you can. ‘Reading Records’ will be sent home for you to make three comments about their reading at home. We also expect your child to make three comments of their own and the books will be collected in every Monday. Please ensure that their Reading Record is in school every day.
It is also of great importance that the children learn their weekly spellings and times tables at home too. These will be tested on a Friday.
Further information regarding the Year 5 Curriculum can be found at the bottom of our Class page.
Below are some important points to ensure a happy and productive first term:
Your child will need a named PE kit (white t-shirt and blue shorts) every Tuesday and Friday. They will also need trainers and suitable clothing for outdoor games on a Tuesday. Remember to bring headphones into school so that your child can access Spellodrome.
A club timetable and an accompanying letter will be sent home shortly. If your child is going to attend a club, then please remember to return the permission slip to the appropriate teacher. Hopefully your child will be able to take part in some of the extra-curricular activities that are available to them.
Many thanks for your support,
Mr Regan & Mrs Schofield
