Happy New Year and thank you very much for your lovely Christmas cards and presents!
We would also like to thank you for your fantastic support so far. We are looking forward to another successful and productive term.
This term our topic will be ‘Mapping Out’. This will include studying the world map whilst focusing on Europe and South America. We will also be studying a variety of maps, identifying their symbols and learn about orienteering.
We will continue to work hard on developing Literacy and Maths skills. Please try to make sure your child reads on a regular basis at home, sharing the experience if you can. ‘Reading Record’ books will continue to be sent home weekly for you to make three comments about your child’s reading at home. We also expect the children to make three comments of their own every week and the books will be collected in every Monday. Please ensure that their reading record is in school every day. It is also of great importance that the children practice their weekly spellings and times tables at home too. These will also be tested on a Friday. A spelling book will be sent home every Friday and the children need to write them out twice in the book as part of their learning process. Education City activities will be given for the children to complete. Your child should bring home their Written Arithmetic and Learn Its. Please spend time going through the problems and allowing your child time to explain their reasoning and practice the ‘Learn Its’ under time constraints.
In Science we will be learning about Earth and Space. We will be studying the planets, the movement of the moon, the reason why we have day and night and facts about the sun, moon and earth. Later on in the term we will be learning about forces including gravity, friction, air resistance, water resistance, levers and pulleys.
Our drumming lessons will continue with Inspire Works.
Please ensure that all uniform is named and that children have indoor plimsolls to change into during the school day. They also need a named PE kit (white t-shirt and blue school shorts) every Tuesday and Friday. Please ensure that your child has suitable clothing (including trainers) as we will sometimes have our PE sessions outside. Jogging bottoms may also be required.
We would like to remind the children that jewellery (other than stud earrings) and nail varnish are not permitted in school.
Children will also need headphones to be able to access the RM Easimaths programme and Spellodrome.
